I Keep With The Mylo Tradition

File under... Heart 'o' Darkness — mylo @ 5:28 pm

Oh no, I can’t do a road trip the easy way.  With friends, a convertable, and lots of beer fueled mayhem.  I have to do it the Mylo way, as hard as possible, by myself, and with a vehicle a lawnmower can probably beat in a race.

I’m sure grandpa is giggling his head off in heaven.

So there is good news.  Sort of.

I think I have the route calculated for half of the trip finally.

It's only half of the trip

Awesome right?  Believe it or not this isn’t my ideal trip.  I would love to emulate the guys who did Moped to South America.  In my opinion out of all the moped/scooter adventures, those guys had the most guts out of all them.

They are seconded by the scoot stars (because they really did have extremely crappy scooters and very little support).

Anyway I did hit a bit of a hitch.  Two actually.

I started writing letters around easter to various publishers, and small motor vehicle manufactorers.  This was around Easter.  The idea was to include a portfolio of photographs I made in the past year, and some writing samples.

You know, “my writing may suck, but I make pretty pictures!”

Well first my scanner, my awesome scanner that could scan in negatives and prints died.  Then Faithe passed on with all of my old work locked in her hard drive.

So getting sponsorship is going to be a little hard until the fall when I can try and retrieve everything.  Then there is the matter of scanner, hey you know what also happens in the fall?

My birthday.  I think someone owes me something.

Speaking of tech.   The two cameras  I want to use.  My mighty Nikon FM, and the Yashica Mat TLR are both in need of repair.

Badly.

Finally, I’m really down to one vehicle that I want.

The Tomos Sprint, with slight modifications.  Luckily it’s only about a grand, so if I don’t get sponsorship I can find a way to finagle myself one.

So yeah, we’re getting there.  Next summer heart-o-darkness no matter what.
