DIANA!!!
It still hasn’t come in yet. But I had a hunch, I went to Urban Outfitters.
There she was. For the same price (DAMMIT!), they had one already out of the wrapping so I had a chance to play with it.
If at all possible it feels cheaper than the holga, definitely not as sturdy. I don’t like the feel, the Holga has more heft.
I did check out the pinhole feature. It’s not bad.
I’m worried about the piece to jam the shutter open. I suppose it’s going to have to come down to the lens.

Set the Irony on High
I went to the writers room, and then I went to starbucks.
On the way I passed by the BN on astor place, and a big poster was in the window. It said they were closing. CLOSING!
They were doing so well. There was always book signings, and readings, and people lots of people. It wasn’t as packed as the one in Union Square but there was always a sufficient amount there.
I usually laugh when a big Corp closes up something (yes I know who I work for, and yes I know I mentioned I went to Starbucks both are nessicities). It’s usually out of spite, and a sign that things aren’t always rosy in their magic kingdom.
This time it was different. I loved that BN. I loved the wooden floors in the top floor. I loved that there was room to sit around and read.
It was different from the other BNs. This one felt like the neighborhood bookshop, with more room. Yeah there is the strand, and I love it for the bargains. But I loved this one for those lazy afternoons, or breaks for a long day in the WR.
God, I had so much history there. I remember when I was pretty much a bum I would go up there, and warm myself up in the steam heat. With a cup of coffee, and dream of better days.
When I got back into school, I bought my books there. I used it as a meeting place. I auditioned potential girlfriends there. After eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, I was convinced I would meet a Clem of my own in that particular store.
Yes, yes I know. Impressionable, impressionable, impressionable.
I wouldn’t be so bad about it, if like a mom and pop huge bookstore went up in its stead. But we all know what’s going to happen, it’ll probably be used as some yuppie superstore.
Well time to find a new spot.

ABSINTHE IS NOW LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the NY Times
I hadn’t had this stuff since australia. I didn’t like it too muchif I recall, but I didn’t like guiness at first either.
What the fuck are you still doing here? DRINK FUCKER!
So ignore that last post.
How many times must I remind myself to not blog when I’m watching TV.
Yuck.
So I’m doing a do over.
I put an order in for the Diana+ (http://www.lomography.com/diana/)
I’m sort of liking the toy camera stuff, but I don’t know why. I don’t feel myself being freed from anything in particular, maybe it’s be because I miss the focus, aperture, and shutter speed.
A light meter is nice too.
It could be the combination of the format and lens. Like this pic (entitled “surface of the moon I”) Maybe I could have pulled it off with a Nikon, but there is something in how the Holga captured the sand.
So this weekend (coming up) I was going to march down to another spot, and put more work into the Holga.
Anyway back on to the Diana+, it has two features that I really would have loved to have on the Holga.
Pinhole and panoramic. I wanted to try pinhole photography since forever.
The other thing is I have enough pictures and with the holga (and soon to be diana) it’s a somewhat decent portfolio.
Maybe I should sell them. Vending style.
It’s a thought.
More Holga shots
I went to a place deep deep to where no one else goes the day after my 30th. I took a few shots, I liked them.
Anyway.
The one thing I noticed about pictures or photography in general is that a lot of people don’t consider it art or something unless it’s in an exotic place, or some half naked impoverished kids are running around.
I only been to two other countries, and I never developed the rolls for one of them.
It doesn’t matter though. I am fortunate to live here in NYC, and lived most of my life in it. So I can find something here to photograph. I am amazed on how many new comers are stuck in their parts of manhattan, or williamsburg. It’s like film or mega-pixels were built for stupid people alone.
Or what’s even worse, are people that use the holga. They take a picture, and even if it’s a standard myspace “look at my dipshit hipster friend” and because of the weirdness it’s now art. Even the booklet that came with the camera had nothing but those pics.
It makes me sick in a way, even these (the ones in this post) aren’t art. They look cool but they communicate nothing.
So anyway, I figured I should keep going with the junk camera deal. I just ordered a Diana+ for the pinhole feature, and the panorama.
