Morning’s not done yet and I already blew up your shit

File under... Conversations — mylo @ 8:27 pm

Today as I was leaving the train station for work I was listening to two hipsters talk.

I honed in the conversation because I heard Coney Island, and me being born there, and my family lived there ever since we came to America was interested on what two hipsters had to say about it.

The first one, was a normal hipster. He wore black, had a shaved head (probably to cover up the fact he’s balding) and glasses. The other one, oh was he special. He looked like a bar tough from a 1970’s Burt Reynolds movie, or an extra from a Chuck Norris fung fu flick, you can choose but in the movies it always ended up the same way. That character always got his ass kicked.

He had long hair, with the perfect amount of accidently performed flow, a tight prewashed band shirt, and jeans. They were talking about the siren festival…

Baldie : yeah like there are two things, in Coney Island right?
70’s dude : yeah like the mermaid (parade) and siren (festival). Like my band was supposed to play but it got rained out.

Me : No it didn’t.

70’s dude : hunh?

Me : I was there last year, it didn’t rain at all.

70’s guy : Yeah that nigh…

Me : I was there for the whole thing.

The 70’s dude creeps off, and mumbles a wise crack at my expense to his boyfriend. But what kind of an dumbass says something was rained out when it’s clearly a rain or shine event?

40 acres, 40 schmakers

File under... Day to Day — mylo @ 1:20 pm

Yeah I know it’s been about two weeks, but I’ve been fucking busy, OK?

Ikea finally arrived, and I have a real couch, a bed, and a chair that doesn’t fold. I have a real phone line again, and I have an internet connection that I’m not (ahem) borrowing from a neighbor. I’m only missing a desk, and don’t even ask from what room I’m typing from right now.

So with this new apartment, and setting it up I’ve been asking what does make me happy. Currently it’s taking a dump in a bathroom that’s not a Architectural after thought. It’s a subway around the corner, and being minutes away from whatever I feel like. It’s a closet, an actual real closet that I can cram as much crap as I want in it.

It’s spacing out and watching TV without getting yelled at for something stupid.

It’s gaming at three in the morning on a saturday, you’re too tired to continue but you really wanna kick the crap out of that guy on the next level.

It’s not knowing what’s next but you’re pretty comfy in the now for the first time in years.

But that’s it, it’s my apartment. I kinda like it here in my new place, it’s like bensonhurst. I don’t understand a damn thing anyone is saying, it’s next to a body of water, and there is a subway a short walk away.

And yes about the MJ thing, come on like you didn’t see it coming? He had enough money to get himself out of it, why be surprised?

Date with Ikea

File under... Day to Day — mylo @ 8:30 pm

Somewhere in the Swede dictionary, the word Ikea sits. For many dumbass americans, it must mean something like cheap furniture that is incredibly modern, and is made for young singles starting off, or dorm rooms.

In the Swede dictionary however, it probably means Hell.

I hate Ikea with every bit of hate that I can only muster for places such as Staten Island. But with my budget they are a needed evil.

Last Saturday, at 2pm, I moved. RFNYC has a new base of operations, and this time we are actually in the city instead of the suburbs. The neighborhood is Washington Heights, where I really am is close to the border of Inwood. My section of the Heights, is an interesting mix. On my block, it’s mostly Spainish. There is a few hipsters here and there, but it’s predominately Spainish. I don’t mind, the people there are nice enough, and they don’t bother me. Besides I’m the one that is living in their territory.

On block over on Bennett Ave, where the A train is the yuppie bastards took over. It feels like an entirely different neighborhood, it’s such a strange mix between societities upper crust, and lower that I can’t help but be confused. With my pay, I’m a lower middle class technically, but I’m gentrifying a neighborhood. Where am I in this?

But I do like this neighborhood, I really like this apartment and I have no complaints about it. But I still hate Ikea.

PS. Aussie I know you’re reading this. I’m sending your stuff soon there is more than I thought so I’m going to need to send it in seperate packages.

PPS. I’m using the dishes and towels now. I couldn’t help but be a little sad when I opened and started putting them away.
